Stickbulb Floor Torch

The Stickbulb Floor Torch is the most pure and minimal expression of the Stickbulb collection. The 6' tall lamp is a single, linear LED module elegantly held in place by a minimal steel base. The light direction can face out toward the room, or be flipped to wash the wall.

The wooden component is made from dismantled water towers from New York City’s iconic skyline - sourced within walking distance of the Stickbulb Studio (housed in the former warehouse of the city’s longest running steel mill).

SUSTAINABILITY FOCUSED DESIGN AND PRODUCTION PRACTICE

Stickbulb is an award-winning lighting brand based in New York City, Born from a pile of scrap wood, the principal objective of Stickbulb has always been to create more light with less waste. The Stickbulb collection, is available in five carefully curated wood types: sustainably-sourced Maple, Walnut, and Ebonized Oak, as well as reclaimed Heart Pine and Water Tower Redwood.

We believe less waste is more beautiful. This simple design philosophy drives our decision making, and it is what originally attracted us (and still attracts us) to wood as a structural solution for our lighting collections. But working with sustainably sourced and reclaimed wood doesn't automatically make a design sustainable. It requires a holistic design and fabrication approach that affects all decision making. We source our materials locally in order to reduce the distance materials travel to our studio and have designed the form-factor of our products and manufacturing process to maximize our yield from reclaimed joists and beams.

What is it made of?

Wood

We work with reclaimed and sustainably sourced woods to build our collection. We work closely with local foresters to help create demand for the most sustainable natural materials available.

Local

Our modular system allows for the majority of our fixtures to be flat packed. Using this system prevent consistently shipping large crates around the world

Artist statement

STICKBULB, founded in 2012, makes illuminated structures in NYC out of wood from locally demolished buildings, dismantled water towers, fallen trees, and sustainably managed forests. The studio is an industry leader in sustainable practice, representing the United States at “Broken Nature” at the XXII Triennale di Milano in 2019, and has received international accolades including the NYCxDESIGN Award for Best in Show and the Red Dot Award.

Creative Director Russell Greenberg and Managing Partner Christopher Beardsley combine their mutual love of architecture and sustainable manufacturing in this meticulously crafted system of modular parts that seamlessly scales from small desk lamps through to room-filling custom installations.
