Paint Preparation: Good surface preparation is vital for the perfect finish. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from any dirt, dust, or contaminants. Repair any cracks, holes, or imperfections. Clean stubborn areas with mild detergent, and remove any loose, or peeling paint, then rinse and dry thoroughly before painting. ECOS recommends using one of our primers if painting over a higher gloss finish, a darker color, applying an accent color, or applying over bare or heavily sanded surfaces. When painting a previously finished piece of furniture (painted, stained, clear coated) it is important to remove the existing finish sufficiently for the new coating to bond. Factory finished pieces will need to be sanded down to the bare wood and then primed. Powder coated pieces cannot be re-painted. Painting onto smooth, impermeable surfaces will result in a peeling or cracking finish.
Paint Application and Clean Up: Stir well before use. If using multiple containers of the same color, intermix them all to ensure color uniformity. Can be applied using a high quality synthetic brush, rolled using a shed-resistant 3/8” to 1/2” roller cover, or sprayed using an airless sprayer with 0.015” to 0.017” tip at 1600 to 1800 psi. Do not apply in temperatures below 50oF. For best results, always apply two coats of paint. Dries to the touch in 30 to 60 minutes. Recommended wait time between coats is 2 to 4 hours. High humidity and cool temperatures may result in longer dry and re-coat times. Do not thin the paint. Clean up with warm soapy water.

Where does it go at the end of its life?
End of life for ECOS products is tied to the substrate onto which the product is applied. Unapplied paint should be disposed of in accordance with local laws. Please check for any recycling options that may be available in your area . ECOS products are not biodegradable.
Over 35 years ago, the pioneers at ECOS set out to revolutionize an industry. This was long before the paint industry started to talk about VOCs, but well after the time when concerned consumers knew about the issues chemical pollution cause. The task was to create a product that didn’t contain the chemicals that give people headaches, nausea, and worse. ECOS wanted to make a clean product that people with chemical sensitivities could use, and one that anyone who wants to protect their families and friends from harm could feel good about.
They developed their unique formulations from scratch, and not just by tweaking a conventional product to turn it “green” by diluting or substituting harmful ingredients to get an ambiguous environmental certification. They developed a whole new pigmenting system that provides wonderful color, without the harsh chemicals and VOCs found in regular tints. But, they also had our sights set on performance. They wanted to engineer a product that was easy to apply, would cover better than traditional products, and was extremely durable – resilient enough to use to paint floors and even lane markings in parking garages. After more than six years of testing in climates as diverse as Arizona, Utah, Maine, and Florida, the ECOS collection was ready to bring to market.
Today, ECOS products are manufactured in Spartanburg, South Carolina and sold throughout North America and around the world – in Asia, Europe, and Australia. Companies like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft use their products, as do iconic institutions like the Louvre, Westminster Abbey, and the Getty Museum. But most of all, their thousands of customers continue to be individuals and families who are simply taking care of themselves and their environment.
