MANCHAHA / ORIGINAL RUGS DESIGNED IN RURAL INDIA
Kitaab by Deepa
About the rug: Deepa is not so well educated, but her husband loves reading books. Bringing random home is a common ritual for him. Deepa fails to read it, so she just looks at the pictures to understand what happens. While weaving this carpet, she was going through a book which had beautiful natural layouts. Since she understood the context, it was enough for her to interpret it in her own way. She named her Manchaha ‘Kitaab’ which means book, and she shares, “Language can be no barrier to understand an emotion”.
About Deepa: Deepa lives with her family in Narhet, Rajasthan. She is a 31 year old mother of three, two sons and a daughter. Her husband works as a mason in the village. She likes carpet weaving as it gives her freedom to work from home while taking care of her family. She says her husband has been her power house and support system to all thick and thin of her life.

Where does the product come from?
What is it made of?
Wool and bamboo rayon.
Where does it go at the end of its life?
In India, handknotted rugs are kept for generations and generally passed down through families. Sometimes rugs are overdyed to provide a new look and feel to an older rug. Rugs are preserved and patches of them can be used for different areas. These rugs disintegrate and decompose and pose no harm to the environment. These rugs start and end from our environment.
Manchaha / Jaipur Living
In rural India, humanity exudes simplicity. Ideas are innocent. Imagination is boundless. Stories are everywhere. An art is born. Manchaha, a design experiment with non-designers, ignited the power in the dying art of rug weaving. In every design there is a unique story to tell, full of emotions, dreams and the personality of its maker. Manchaha redefines art by tapping into the untamed fashion of rural India.
