MANCHAHA / ORIGINAL RUGS DESIGNED IN RURAL INDIA
Murli / by Murli
About the rug: ‘Murli’ is musical instrument which disseminates harmony and melody. Although this Manchaha is his namesake, you’ll find this carpet dances to the melody he’s woven and the design patterns channel the music from one end to the other. He’s played with the base colour to also add to this effect and using the simple repetitive patterns brings this carpet to life. Master-ji had to represent himself at his best and this beautiful runner is a prime example of why he’s called the boss.
About the designer: Murli is 60 years old and has been weaving rugs from the past 45 years. He is so well versed in the art that his fellow weavers call him “Master-ji”, which means boss. He is clear to the messages of his heart and merging that with his skills he always makes a perfect carpet. He lives in Piplai, Rajasthan with his large family of five daughters and two sons.

Where does the product come from?
What is it made of?
Wool and bamboo rayon.
Where does it go at the end of its life?
In India, handknotted rugs are kept for generations and generally passed down through families. Sometimes rugs are overdyed to provide a new look and feel to an older rug. Rugs are preserved and patches of them can be used for different areas. These rugs disintegrate and decompose and pose no harm to the environment. These rugs start and end from our environment.
Manchaha / Jaipur Living
In rural India, humanity exudes simplicity. Ideas are innocent. Imagination is boundless. Stories are everywhere. An art is born.
Manchaha, a design experiment with non-designers, ignited the power in the dying art of rug weaving. In every design there is a unique story to tell, full of emotions, dreams and the personality of its maker. Manchaha redefines art by tapping into the untamed fashion of rural India.
